Announcements

Our preliminary brainstorming session for the bicentennial was productive.  Note the enclosed list of ideas suggest on Sunday evening.  If you have items to add for future consideration, see Derek.  June 11, 2017 will be here before you know it!

Trish Littler has been hospitalized, and her condition is deteriorating.  The CCCC/WNY region recommends that local churches take up a love offering for the Littlers as a gesture of support and to help defray medical expenses.  We’ll be receiving contributions marked “LITTLER LOVE GIFT” over the next several weeks.

Next Sunday we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper.  If you would like to participate but are unable to join us, see Derek or one of the Elders to arrange another time.  Don’t be shy about taking full advantage of this important gesture of unity with Christ and his body.  A fellowship meal is planned.

Calendar

Wednesday, September 2nd
Choir practice at 6:00 pm.

Join us for Bible study and prayer at the church beginning at 7:00 pm.  In our survey of the great themes of Genesis, we’re looking at the fascinating story of Melchizedek in Chapter 14.  Who was he?  What did he do?  How did he point ahead to gospel reality?  It’s a great time to join us!

Get the most out of the service by asking about our special listening devices.
Pick up one in the back or see an usher for help.  If yours isn’t working properly, don’t be bashful about raising your hand to ask for assistance.

Making Sense of Job
Notes on Job 24:1-25 : “The burden of this section is found in its opening and closing words:  “Why are times not laid up by the Almighty?  And why do those who know him not see his days?”  God does not, like Samuel, have a regular circuit for preserving order and punishing crime.  Cruel and greedy men prey unchecked upon the helpless.  Job voices the plaintive, “How long?” for all those who are oppressed.  But God, in his inscrutable wisdom, allows the lives of the wicked to attain full maturity and to end as other men’s lives end.  Sure of his facts, Job issues his victory challenge.”

Making Sense of Job
Notes on Job 23:1-17 – “The patriarch Job refrains from indignantly denying Eliphaz’ unfounded charges.  Instead, he resumes the theme of his previous speech in Chapter 21.  Job ponders the perplexing absence of discernible justice in God’s dealings with himself, a righteous man, and with the wicked.”
