Next week marks the beginning of Advent 2007.
Our morning worship services will celebrate this season with Advent candles, readings, banners, and special messages. This year’s theme is “Advent of the Apocalypse”. We will explore different ways Jesus’ ministry is presented in the gospels and further developed in John’s Apocalypse (the book of Revelation). We will consider themes like Seed of the Woman, King of Kings, a New Moses for a New Exodus, and Angel of the Lord. Christmas is more than prophecy fulfilled. It’s a hint of things to come! Let’s prepare our hearts together for this special season.
Make note of these dates for your Christmas calendar:
Saturday, December 8th – Ladies’ Christmas Luncheon at 12:00. Bring your favorite Christmas casserole or dessert to share.
Sunday, December 16th – Christmas Tea at the Parsonage, 2–5 pm
Sunday, December 23rd – FCC’s 2007 Sunday School Program, “It Seems Impossible!” This original production will be presented during our family worship time.
Monday, December 24th – Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, 6:30 pm.
“Mitten Tree” collections to support Seneca Mission, Cornerstone Manor & City Mission is set up in the back of the sanctuary.

Monday, October 15th
Church Board meeting at 7:00 pm
Sunday, October 28th
It’s our turn to host this season’s Singspiration (Hymn Sing)! Come and enjoy an evening of singing with our friends from Lake View and First Church of Evans (and other fellowships), beginning at 6:30 pm as we celebrate Reformation Sunday in song. Also, you may want to bring a favorite “harvest-theme” dessert to share during the fellowship time to follow.
Last Sunday, Schoolhouse #8’s “Walk of Remembrance” was officially dedicated. The granite walkway includes over a hundred memorial bricks, including one contributed by FCC. It’s a striking, elegant memorial. See if you can find it!
“I wish to thank my church family for my beautiful birthday card. May God continue to bless each of you.” Evelyn Falk

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper. If you would like to participate but are unable to be here, see Derek or one of the Elders to arrange another time. Don’t be shy about taking full advantage of this important gesture of unity with Christ and his body. A fellowship meal with a Thanksgiving theme is planned for November.
Herb & Allie Palmer’s niece (who is their Power of Attorney) has recently moved to North Carolina and she’s asking for our help. In her absence, she is hoping to arrange a visitation schedule. She would like to enlist the help of someone from our congregation to visit the Palmers in Orchard Park once a month. She will send a monthly fee to keep their refrigerator stocked with favorite snacks and to help reimburse for traveling expenses, like gas. This is a great opportunity to serve Herb and Allie during a difficult time in their lives. You may want to try it for a year or even just six months and then let someone else have a turn. If you would like to be part of this important ministry of covenant love, see Derek.

The church’s financial statement for August 2007 is posted for review in the office over the copy machine. Summers are typically low-giving months & this fall finds us lagging behind in our financial commitments. Let’s do our part to support the ongoing ministries of our local church, including missions, by giving generously of our time, prayer, energy and finances. Let’s pray together that God would supply the faith and finances we need to further the work of the kingdom in this area & beyond.
