ANNOUNCEMENTS
Tuesday, January 29th
Ladies Bible Study has begun a new study in the “Discovering Who Jesus Is” series. If you’re looking for more study, encouragement and prayer in your life, consider joining us as we tackle Jesus’ “I AM” statements. We meet at Evie Mann’s home in Eden at 8:00 pm.
Wednesday, January 30th
Choir practice at the church at 6:00 pm
Bible Study and Prayer meeting at 7:00 pm. We’re in the final paragraphs of Matthew’s gospel – the Great Cover-up and the Great Commission!
Thursday, January 31st
Elders’ meeting at 6:30 pm. Come ready to discuss Chapter 6 in the Elders Handbook (“Public Worship”).
Sunday, February 10th
Ellington Congregational Church will celebrate its 180th anniversary. Gene VanDette, FCC Elder and Ellington Interim Pastor, invites us to be part of the festivities – a special morning service, fellowship meal, and music program in the afternoon.
Our sympathies go out to 12-year old Danielle Hill, whose South Buffalo home was destroyed by fire last week. She lost most of her personal effects, including this year’s Christmas presents and a family pet. Special contributions may be designated “DANIELLE HILL ACTS 4:34-35 PROJECT”.
In an effort to serve the congregation better, the Church Board has authorized the purchase of several listening devices. The personal receivers are small and discreet and will go a long way to help people get the most out of our services. A special contribution has already been earmarked for the $800 purchase, but if you would like to be part of this important project, please designate your contributions, “LISTENING DEVICE PROJECT.”
BE PRAYING WITH THE NOMINATING COMMITTEE AS THEY MEET TO PREPARE A SLATE OF CANDIDATES TO BE CONSIDERED FOR OFFICE AT THE ANNUAL MEETING IN FEBRUARY 2008. TO SUBMIT NAMES FOR CONSIDERATION OR TO MAKE ANY OTHER COMMENTS PERTAINING TO THE NOMINATING PROCESS, SEE OLIVE, FRED OR DEREK IN THE COMING WEEKS. PRAY WITH US DURING THIS IMPORTANT TIME IN OUR CHURCH.

Like last year, we will be presenting another visual “collage” of memories from the past year. If you have slides, prints, or digital images of special events and want them included, get them to Derek.
DUE TO THE CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR HOLIDAYS, OUR MIDWEEK BIBLE STUDIES ARE SUSPENDED UNTIL THE FIRST WEEK OF JANUARY, BUT CONSIDER TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THESE WEEKLY OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDY, FELLOWSHIP & PRAYER IN 2008.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2ND we will meet at the church for Bible Study and prayer at 7:00 pm. We’re in the final sections of Matthew’s gospel: the crucifixion and resurrection in Chapters
27-28. It’s a great time to join us.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 3RD the Ladies Bible Study is finishing up its study in the Pastoral Epistles (1-2 Timothy, Titus). If you’re looking for more study, encouragement & prayer in your life, consider joining this group. We’ll be starting another exciting study in the new year. We meet at Evie Mann’s at 8 pm.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 6TH
Celebration of Lord’s Supper
In an effort to reduce heating costs this winter, the Church Board again recommends meeting in the Adult Sunday School Classroom for worship during the coldest winter months, like we did last year. Once again, alternate locations for affected Sunday School and Junior Church classes are being considered. We recommend holding our first service of the season in the “Winter Chapel” on December 30th. Thank you for your understanding in this important matter.
– The Church Board
I would like to thank my church family for the lovely Christmas plant, candy and card plus a nice surprise visit with Alice Yoder and Shirley Reed. It was all appreciated very much.
I’ve been told my recovery from my fall will be long but I’m still most grateful to the home.
May the New Year bring special blessings to all.
Thanks again,
Evelyn Falk
Dear Church Family,
How appreciative Ellsworth and I are for all the prayers that are being sent heavenward, and all the wonderful cards & notes that are such a blessing that have come to me in the hospital and to both of us here at home. We sense the Lord’s inexhaustible supply of grace & help every day.
How thankful we are that Ellsworth feels no pain, only weakness. The Lord is so good to allow us another Christmas together, so it will be a precious Christmas indeed.
Affectionately, Harriett

Advent 2007. Our morning worship services celebrate this season with Advent candles, readings, banners, and special messages. This year’s theme is “Advent of the Apocalypse”, exploring different ways Jesus’ ministry is presented in the gospels and further developed in John’s Apocalypse (the book of Revelation). We will consider themes like Seed of the Woman, King of Kings, a New Moses for a New Exodus, and Angel of the Lord. Christmas is more than prophecy fulfilled. It’s a hint of things to come! Let’s prepare our hearts together for this special season.

Next week marks the beginning of Advent 2007.
Our morning worship services will celebrate this season with Advent candles, readings, banners, and special messages. This year’s theme is “Advent of the Apocalypse”. We will explore different ways Jesus’ ministry is presented in the gospels and further developed in John’s Apocalypse (the book of Revelation). We will consider themes like Seed of the Woman, King of Kings, a New Moses for a New Exodus, and Angel of the Lord. Christmas is more than prophecy fulfilled. It’s a hint of things to come! Let’s prepare our hearts together for this special season.
