ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our mid-week Bible studies will not meet during the New Year holiday, but plan now to make 2009 a year of increased study, prayer, and mutual encouragement by joining one of these groups:
Ladies Bible Study will begin a new study on Tuesday, January 6th at 8:00 pm called “Pleasing God”. They meet at Evie Mann’s home in Eden. It’s a great time to join them!
Wednesday Evening Bible Study and Prayer Meeting will continue in its look at James on January 7th at 7:00 pm. The new study, called “Brother to Brother”, is a series of lessons intended to give “brotherly” advice to fellow pilgrims in exile … like us!

Sunday, January 4th
Next Sunday, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. If you would like to participate but are unable to be here, see Derek or one of the Elders to arrange another time. Don’t be shy about taking full advantage of this important gesture of unity with Christ and his body. As is our custom, following our Communion Meal, we’ll be enjoying a fellowship meal together.

Sunday, January 11th
Singspiration! at 6:30 pm. It’s our turn to host this special community event.

Tuesday, January 13th
Full Church Board Meeting at 7:00 pm

We would like to express our deepest thanks to all of you for the very generous gift we received this Christmas season. We are so thankful that God has given us such a loving and supportive church family. May he grant us all a very special and blessed New Year together.
With much love, Alice, Derek, Katie, Rebekah, Joel and Owen

In an effort to reduce the cost of heating the church building in winter, the Church Board again recommends meeting for worship in the Adult Sunday School Classroom. We recommend holding our first worship service downstairs in the “Winter Chapel” on December 28th at our regular time of 10:45 am. Please see Fred or Derek with any questions or concerns you may have about this temporary arrangement. Thank you for your understanding in this important matter. – The Church Board

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our Sunday School program focuses on the identity of Jesus Christ and his part in the Trinity. He is “Perfectly One” with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The letters “IHS” help draw our attention to Christ in a special way. From ancient times, the “IHS” monogram has been an important symbol in the church, formed by taking the first three letters of Jesus’ name in Greek. (It would be like us writing “JΕS” in English.) The bar over the middle letter was a way space-conscious scribes indicated a word was an abbreviation. (Jesus’ full name in Greek capital letters would be written “IHSOYS”).

We will consider, travelogue-style, how the “geography of the gospel” contributes to our understanding of the person and ministry of Jesus Christ. Let’s prepare our hearts together for this special season.

Next Sunday we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper. If you would like to participate but are unable to be here, see Derek or one of the Elders to arrange another time. Don’t be shy about taking full advantage of this important gesture of unity with Christ and his body.
As is our custom, following our Communion Meal, we’ll be enjoying a fellowship meal together. Also, as we’re finishing up our dessert, we are planning to have a family meeting in the adult Sunday School classroom, a brief, casual time in which questions from the congregation can be asked about any subject, comments expressed, and special concerns raised. We will discuss the proposed statement by the Elders regarding the Lord’s Supper. In preparation for that meeting, pick up a copy of the proposed statement on the back table. Copies of our current Constitution & Bylaws are also available.

During this time of increasing expenses, we are lagging behind in our third-quarter commitments to our missionaries. Let’s join together with generous, thankful hearts, praying that God would continue to bless the ministry that extends outward from this place.
