A CALL IS ISSUED TO THE MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF THE FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF NORTH COLLINS TO ATTEND OUR ANNUAL MEETING SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2009 AT 10:00 AM. OFFICERS WILL BE ELECTED, ANNUAL REPORTS GIVEN, AND THE NEW BUDGET ADOPTED. ANY OTHER BUSINESS BY THE PEOPLE WILL ALSO BE TRANSACTED. THERE ARE NO TRUSTEE TERMS EXPIRING THIS YEAR, YET THERE ARE UP TO FOUR VACANCIES.
The Elders recommend that the statement presented to the Congregation on October 5th, 2008, for review and discussion (available on the back table) be adopted as an expression of this Church’s convictions and policies regarding the Lord’s Supper. Specifically, they recommend that the first four paragraphs (under the heading “V § 3 The Lord’s Supper”) replace Art. V §§ 3.1-2 of our current FCC Constitution & Bylaws. They further recommend that the final five paragraphs (under the heading “Appendix A: The Lord’s Supper”) appear as an appendix at the back of the Constitution.

By providing free pregnancy testing, confidential counseling, and practical assistance and referrals, the center strives to give women an alternative to abortion. You can help the center by volunteering, donating, and praying for the center and clients. For more information, please call 532-9738.

Our Sunday School program focuses on the identity of Jesus Christ and his part in the Trinity. He is “Perfectly One” with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The letters “IHS” help draw our attention to Christ in a special way. From ancient times, the “IHS” monogram has been an important symbol in the church, formed by taking the first three letters of Jesus’ name in Greek. (It would be like us writing “JΕS” in English.) The bar over the middle letter was a way space-conscious scribes indicated a word was an abbreviation. (Jesus’ full name in Greek capital letters would be written “IHSOYS”).

Choir practice at the church at 6:00 pm.
Bible Study and Prayer meeting begins at 7:00 pm at church. We are beginning a new study in the book of James, called “Brother to Brother”. Join us for a series of lessons intended to give “brotherly” advice to fellow pilgrims in exile … like us!
Saturday, December 13th
Sunday School’s Christmas program practice at 10:30 am.
During our morning worship services, we will commemorate the Advent season with Advent candles, readings, banners, and special messages. This year’s themes are taken from various places associated with Jesus’ earthly ministry – Bethlehem, Egypt, Golgotha, and Jerusalem. We will consider, travelogue-style, how the “geography of the gospel” contributes to our understanding of the person and ministry of Jesus Christ. Let’s prepare our hearts together for this special season.
