The Yoders will be away the first two Sundays in August.  Tony Barone, retired Buffalo City Mission chaplain, will be our guest speaker on August 3rd and 10th while Derek and his family are in Maine.

The church is facing some capital-improvement expenses that are pressing – resealing the parking lot and filling in the basement’s eastside stairwell (to eliminate chronic flooding).  Any additional contributions toward these projects would be appreciated.

If you’re looking to expand your reading horizons, consider joining our summer reading and discussion group.  We’ll be looking at David Powlison’s Speaking Truth in Love: Counsel in Community.  Unlike some of our past selections, this book has more of a counseling feel to it.  If you’d like to be part of the reading group, let Derek know, and a book will be ordered for you.

As part of this year’s CCCC regional fall banquet (Oct 25th) a dramatic presentation is planned, called the “Living Last Supper”.  Here’s the catch:  Local churches are called on to supply the actors, and we have assigned the role of Peter.  “Peter” must memorize his lines (~300 words) and commit to three practices prior to the performance.  If you’re interested, see Derek.

Calendar
Wednesday, July 30th
Choir practice at 6:00 pm.

Join us for Bible study and prayer at the church at 7:00 pm.  We’ve begun a survey of the great themes of Genesis.  (We’re continuing on with providence and the image of God.)  Derek will be away August 6th and 13th, but join us then for special times of teaching and prayer at the church.

A special thank you to Olive and Don Hill for the use of their beautiful property and hospitality again for our annual outdoor worship service and picnic.

Check out “Ask the Pastor” on Friday, July 18th at 2:00 pm (TCT Network and Dish Network channel 26, DirecTV does not carry the program).  “Ask the Pastor” is a live call-in program with a panel of five area pastors answering viewer questions about like and the Bible from the Bible.  It’s Derek’s turn to sit on the panel.  Pray for him as he tries to think fast and make the most of this special opportunity.

The church’s financial statement for June 2014 is posted for
review in the office over the copy machine.

Our annual Outdoor Worship Service followed by a picnic will be at Don and Olive Hill’s home on Langford Road again this year.

Get the most out of the service by asking about our special listening devices.  Pick up one in the back or see an usher for help.  If yours isn’t working property, don’t be bashful about raising your hand to ask for assistance.
