Announcements
November is a time to donate toward the purchase of Bibles for the persecuted church.  Offerings designated “Persecuted Church Bibles” will be used to purchase Bibles for the Voice of the Martyrs ministry. (VOM distributes Bibles around the world and is a trustworthy ministry.)  Let’s pray for our fellow Christians’ perseverance and give joyfully for their edification by making the scriptures available.

Be praying with the Nominating Committee as it works to prepare a slate of candidates to be considered for office at the Annual Meeting in February 2018.  To submit names, see Olive, Fred or Derek.

Join us for choir practice one Saturday a month, usually from 9-10:00 am.  If you would like to join the choir, see Kathy or Alice for practice dates.  We would love to have you come sing with us!

Next week marks the beginning of Advent 2017!  Our morning worship services will commemorate the season with candles, readings, banners, and special messages.  This year’s theme is “The Spirit of Christmas”.  We’ll examine the role of the Holy Spirit in the familiar Nativity stories – preparing the way (John the Baptist), working a new creation (Mary), bearing testimony (Simeon), and granting the favor of sonship (Bethlehem).  Pray that this will be an encouraging, challenging time in our congregation as we reflect on the Spirit’s work at Christmas – and in our hearts and lives.

Calendar
Monday, November 27th: AA meets downstairs from 8:00 – 9:15 pm.

Wednesday, November 29th: Bible study & prayer meeting at 7:00 pm.  We’re studying the two angelic announcements about “miracle babies” in Luke 1.  It’s a great time to join us!

Friday, December 1st:  The 2nd Sunday school program practice meets at 6:30 pm in the adult Sunday school room.

Saturday, December 2nd: Dewey Missionary Christmas luncheon at 12 noon here at church.  Bring a dish to pass and a friend to share our time together

Friday, December 8th:  Join us for our 3rd Advent guitar concert featuring the Hamburg Classical Guitar Quartet at 7:00 pm here at FCC.

Sunday, December 10th: Christmas Tea at the Parsonage from 2-5:00 pm.

Sunday, December 17th:  Sunday School program “No More Shadows” during our morning worship.

Get the most out of the service by asking about our special listening devices.  Pick up one in the back or see an usher for help.  If yours isn’t working properly, don’t be bashful about raising your hand to ask for assistance.

Interest has been expressed in joining the church.  If others would like to be part of a class for progressive members, see Derek or one of the Elders.  The class is designed for those considering church membership.  But if you’re already a member and still don’t have the foggiest idea what Congregationalism is about, come and sit in on this three- or four-session class.  Details to follow.

The church’s financial statement for October 2017 is posted for review in the office over the copy machine.
